A Short Introduction to Spectroscopy:
Notes on Information, Energy, Matter, & Light
By Erick O. Oduniyi

I will start with a poem I wrote a while back (circa Spring 2017):

light systems are constructed to give guidance in the dark

in social interactions

in stressful moments

and most importantly into ourselves

Celestial Bodies

Waves

God

Electromagnetic Radiation (EM | EMR):

Waves or their quanta (photons) that are created as a result of oscillations between an electric field and a magnetic field. – Wikipedia

Information:

“The resolution of uncertainty; it is that which answers the question of ‘What an entity is’ and thus defines both its essence and nature of its characteristics.” – Wikipedia

energy:

The ability to do work on an object.

matter:

The sum of atoms in an object.

light:

A particular case of EM:

visible light

infrared

ultraviolet

Spectroscopy:

# The study of functional interactions between matter and light
Spectroscopy <- function(matter, light) {
  result <- interaction(matter, light)
  result
}

The result formed from Spectroscopy is data.

Intelligence (Creativity):

To go from result (data) to insight (understanding) there must be some intermediary system that posses intelligence and or creativity. Though, here’s a difficult problem: adequately defining intelligence and or creativity.

Communication

The act of transmitting and receiving information.

Miscommunication (Error)

An error in the processing of information.
